Health Canada’s label guide explains the health and safety information found on legal cannabis product labels. Packages can differ in size and format, but labels must follow federal requirements, including information in English and French. The package for a specific product—not a third-party summary—is the best place to check its details.
THC and CBD information
Labels provide cannabinoid information relevant to the product and its format. THC is the main cannabinoid associated with intoxication; CBD does not produce a high but can still affect the body and brain. These label amounts describe a product. They do not predict a particular person’s response or establish that a product is suitable for them.
Warnings and product details
Read the entire package, including its health warnings and product-specific information. Do not rely on a cropped image, retailer description or a single number. For a particular package, consult its label; for an explanation of label terms and required information, use Health Canada’s label guide and federal consumer information.
Understand the limits
This site does not compare products, recommend potency or make medical claims. See our separate THC and CBD overview for a plain-language explanation of those terms.
